Background
Aeter is a world of fantasy that highly resembles modern society, inhabited by familiar and unique species ranging from anthropomorphic animals like lemurs and sharks, to mythological creatures like dragons and goblins, and finally creatures the likes of which one has never seen before such as the tortavi. This planet is also the home of our main character, Joe the Dragon.
Sheo Islands is an archipelago of mysterious and magical islands that connect to each other, with the residents of the island being generally peaceful and carefree from varying different tribes and civilizations based around the strange biomes of each island.
One of the treasures of the Sheo Islands are the Emeralds of Power, these are gems of unknown power that promise to give whoever possess all of them nearly limitless power and wealth, and though this may just be a myth, these Emeralds are the main objective in a planet-wide tournament titled “Gerrabacco”
Gerrabacco
Gerrabacco is a free-for-all battle royale tournament, in which everyone on the planet can participate. To win the tournament, one individual must collect the five Emeralds of Power, scattered across the islands. Whoever collects all 5 Emeralds first will be granted phenomenal cosmic power, as well as 10 billion zennies for those that do not believe in the Emerald’s powers.
For this tournament, teams and factions are allowed and not limited in size, meaning that even entire races and species may form teams to gather the Emeralds, as is the case with the Dakus and the Amarus forming a team under the leadership of Kama. The player gets to control Joe who, despite coming across many characters that he has a good history with, decided to join the tournament by himself.
The tournament is organized, or at least made public, by Tunist. This character hypes the tournament up as a test of might and stamina, as well as a fantastic spectacle for people that don’t want to participate. Tunist does mention that local police are informed and are able to guide the public in case they need help, despite this however, competition will be brutal as no real rules were mentioned, including ones that forbid competitors from stealing collected Emeralds.
Individuals not participating in the tournament can just go about their day-to-day lives and watch the planet-wide battle-orgy unfold, maybe even mingle with the tourney's contestants while they're at it.
Game Act 1
The first act of Oh So Hero! follows the beginning of Joe’s adventure. His intentions with the promised wealth and power are unknown or perhaps even nonexistent, as he tells his friend Ket that he’s simply off to have fun at the tourney. His adventure starts off in the Sheo Islands Beach, a place that had an alien spaceship land on it meaning that Joe had to square off against the Dakus and the Amarus right away.
Joe continues his adventure through the Sheo Islands, going through forests, bayous and even a dojo, meeting a colorful cast of characters that are happy to help him continue his adventure, or relieve some tension he may have built up during it.
His journey in act 1 follows him until Lood City Park, where on top of getting warned that he had caught the attention of a cop that was now after him, he faced off against Bates, befriending him after a showcase of his strength and seduction, with him discovering after that he can transform into a new shape but with yet unknown powers relating to chi and emotions.
Comic Issue #1
The events of the first issue of the Oh So Hero! comic starts by placing a spotlight on Kama’s crew on their quest to recover a lodestone. Their quest takes a shaky first step when their landing gear fails and makes them crash on the planet’s surface.
The story then follows Wayra, an Amaru that decided it was his chance to shine and decided to take a different direction than the rest of the crew. He ends up finding the Lodestone by himself after taking a different entrance into the mysterious temple, however, he messes up its extraction and activates some sort of trap. Joe then finds him inside this location and tries to help him both after he pitied himself for messing up, as well as with the retrieval of the Lodestone.
They end up recovering the lodestone and successfully exit the temple and its traps, but will soon realize that the Lodestone may have effects on their lust which they immediately find themselves needing to satisfy.
This comic is still ongoing, and you are able to read it at the comics page on Full Frontal Frog’s website.
Trivia
- In previous versions of the game, the plot was that the aliens were invading with more malicious intentions (whatever that might have been). This was best indicated in the original game over screen, where Joe appeared to not be into getting anally penetrated by a Daku (though the blush on his face might have indicated that he was trying to deny it) while being restrained by two others. This premise was changed to the current, more lighthearted one (at least for now), Patreon's strict policies against content featuring non-consent (among other specific kinks) may have played a role in this change as well.
- The concept of a large group of people fighting each other on an island is most likely derived from the movie, Battle Royale.
- The Emeralds of Power are based on the Chaos Emeralds from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
