The save data for Oh So Hero! is stored outside of its installation folder. This allows the save data to automatically carry over across new versions of the game. The location of this differs for each operating system, as detailed in the sections below.
The player can create, update and delete save-files in game.
To create a new Save file, navigate to the main menu and select an available save slot. Doing so will immediately start the game, playing the beginning cutscene and placing the player in the Sheo Islands Beach with an empty inventory, ready to start their adventure.
The game manages two kinds of save files, gallery data and game save files, both will automatically be updated by the game after the player performs any action that warrants it. The gallery data file is updated after every scene the player encounters, this is so the player can later visit the Gallery and have direct access to every animation they've naturally encountered in their playthroughs, regardless of which save file. Actual game save files work just like in any other game, logging the player's progress as they venture through the game and keeping track of their current inventory, location, status, etc. This save file is updated with the player's current adventure every time they step over an Entrance or after a Game Over.
Finally, to delete a save file, the player has to navigate to the main menu and select the save slot they want to clear, and instead of picking Continue, pick Erase. This opens the save slot for the player to create a new file and start a fresh adventure. Gallery data cannot be deleted from inside the game.
Your save files are stored in the user's LocalLow folder, to reach this folder easily, press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window. Next, copy and paste the following line into the “Open:” textbox and click OK:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Full Frontal Frog\Oh So Hero!
An Explorer window will appear to show you the contents. The pertinent files are:
These files store the metadata necessary to keep scenes unlocked in the Gallery, and also your game progress respectively.
Additionally, Player Prefs are stored in the Registry:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Full Frontal Frog\Oh So Hero!
For a rundown on how to clear Player preferences, like your controller bindings and graphics configurations, see the Troubleshooting page.
Using Finder, press Shift+Cmd+G (Go to Folder) or navigate to:
~/Library/Application Support/Full Frontal Frog/Oh So Hero!
You'll find GalleryData.es3 and SaveFile01.es3 here.
Depending on the game version, save data may be stored in a different folder:
For builds up to version 0.20.800:
~/Library/Application Support/co.ff-f.OhSoHero
For builds from version 0.21.000 onward:
~/Library/Application Support/com.FullFrontalFrog.OhSoHero
On Apple Silicon Macs, installations may sometimes use a different location (for example, due to Rosetta or reinstallations). If you cannot find your save files, check all of the paths above.
It has been reported that the files are stored in the following location for Steam Deck:
~/.config/unity3d/Full Frontal Frog/Oh So Hero!/
Although we are able to build for Linux, our knowledge of the platform is limited. If you know the location of said files for a particular Linux OS that differs from this location, please contact us so we may update this information.
If you are playing Oh So Hero! on Steam, it will use Steam Cloud by default to sync your save files. This works cross-platform on all the locations listed above.
This can be enabled or disabled within Steam itself in Settings → Cloud for the global setting, or individually within the game's properties → General → Steam cloud.
If you are moving to version 1.00.000 (Act 1) from an older version, we recommend you erase your data and start a new save, as old data may cause your game to crash or hang.
On a similar note, save data from a version older than version 0.15 (Pre Edition II) is not compatible with newer builds of the game.
While migrating save data from version 0.15 into version 0.16 is entirely possible, 0.15 did not generate a Gallery metadata file, meaning that the player's unlocked scenes aren't kept track of in the earlier version and the player will need to encounter them again to unlock them in the gallery.
The following user-submitted save files and gallery data may help you advance in the game as needed.
While this has gallery data only, it has 100% completion as of v1.06!
